Case Study: Livestream Video Production

The Client: Albion College is a liberal arts college located in Albion, Michigan. They have a student population of over 1,500 with 90% of the population living on campus. They’re consistently ranked among the top liberal arts colleges nationally.

The Need: Albion approached Allied looking to improve the quality of their commencement livestream. The previous year’s livestream included a single camera pointed at the stage. They were looking for a partner to elevate the programming and help bring the commencement experience to family and friends that couldn’t attend.

The Production: We knew we could recreate the previous experience and increase the production value with little effort, but we worked with Albion’s creative team to put together a plan that would elevate the experience. This included a 4-camera setup routed into our live-stream switcher. We had a locked-off wide shot on the stage, an alternate angle focused from stage-right on the podium, a third roaming camera to capture crowd reaction and programming, and a fourth camera hidden on stage for a low wide-angle to capture the handing of diplomas close up.

The Result: The production created in a seamless 2-hour livestream that followed alumni through their ceremonial walk across the quad, students doing the same, commencement peaches, and captured the final tossing of the caps. Over 1,000 additional people viewed the commencement live and the reviews were overwhelmingly positive. Additionally, because of the way Allied Productions captured the footage our post productions team quickly put together a separate commencement highlight that Albion shared with family, friends, and alumni. More importantly, we gained a new trusted client and partner. Albion and Allied are currently working together to produce impactful content for their admissions department and helped create their ongoing #MyAlbion campaign.
